About The Campaign

Welcome to Seniors Volunteering – a program designed to help Queensland’s older community members (65+) reconnect with their communities through volunteering.

Supported by funding from the Queensland Government, this pilot project is a response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into social isolation and loneliness (2021), which found that volunteering is a powerful way to combat loneliness and improve well-being.

Volunteering Queensland is leading this initiative to increase volunteering rates among older Queenslanders. By providing resources, support, and local connections, we aim to empower seniors to engage in meaningful volunteer roles that enhance their lives and communities.

As part of this initiative, we are launching a Volunteer Ambassador program. This program allows seniors to take on leadership roles by supporting their peers in navigating the world of volunteering. Our Senior Volunteering Ambassadors are key to building a community of volunteers, enhancing local engagement, and inspiring others to give back, creating a ripple effect of care and contribution.

Volunteering is an empowering way to stay active, meet new people, and make a meaningful contribution to your community. Through this campaign, we hope to create a lasting change in the way older Queenslanders engage with volunteer opportunities, helping them stay connected, healthy, and fulfilled.

I think volunteering is very good for the haze, so we keep us occupied, our mind. Because if you don't do that, you get dementia very quick. That's a very important thing. You keep moving and moving, your mind must be busy.

I also found that using skills that I had during my working life I found it important to be able to continue to use those skills. And that's what helped me select what I wanted to do.
